The Blackcats went into the district baseball slate with a 6-3 record and lost to Lamar Consolidated 6-3 last week.Bay City and its arsenal of pitchers has taken just three regular season losses before starting their marathon of District 24-4A games in which they play every team three times. The Cats hung with the Mustangs early on, trailing just 3-2 after one full inning. Lamar Consolidated went up by a run in the third and added two more in the fifth. Travis Tomek got the loss on the mound and Shaun Rutherford tripled for Bay City.
The Houston Chronicle reported eight homeruns for the Blackcats during two games – Columbia and Kinkaid. Colby Hines and Tomek had two each and Chance Leissner, Rutherford, Trevor Seidel and Chad Barrett had a homer each. BC opened this season with a 1-0 loss to Barbers Hill and edged Santa Fe before entering the Santa Fe tournament and going 2-1. They lost to Brazoswood in the tourney by three runs but beat La Marque and Kinkaid by big margins.
The Cats downed Columbia 18-5 to go 3-3 overall. They entered the Wharton tournament and lost to Jersey Village 5-4 before beating Wharton and Cy Springs, the latter by a nine-point shutout.
