Blackcats in post-season running

The Blackcats are two games from finishing the regular season and all they need to do is beat Foster once to hold on to second place.

Bay City put Terry down 9-4 Tuesday night and finished up the series against them Friday night. Lamar Consolidated knocked Foster out 13-3 Tuesday and it isn’t likely the Falcons can upset the Mustangs Friday.

The Blackcats will likely be two games ahead of Foster by the time they start their two-game series on Tuesday. One win against Foster secures second place, but if the Blackcat lose to Foster twice, they’ll tie for second place and either playoff for the higher playoff seed or use another tiebreaker method.

Shaun Rutherford pitched the win and Zach Benson came on in the sixth and earned his third save of the year. Benson hit 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Derek Montgomery was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chance Leissner had a double.
